Dave's Birthday

Dave's birthday was pretty quiet this year... well no pirate party anyway. Jonah wanted to dress like his daddy so he put on some jeans and a t-shirt over a long-sleeve shirt (his shirt said "It seemed like a good idea at the time"... he looks like trouble, but it's all just for show) and his camo bib ("daddy's little side kick"). Dave wore his tough guy camo shirt. They even both had on white socks with gray toes. It was way cute! Er... I mean... they looked tough!

We went out to dinner at Red Lobster - yummo! Then we all stopped by my Aunt Pat's birthday party. Here's some of my family on my dad's side...

Pictured: (back row left to right) Uncle Dave, Josh, Rosie, Aunt Becky, my dad Dan, sister-in-law Sheridan (Jeff's wife), brother Tony, brother Jeff, niece Kylee, sister Molly, Aunt MaryAnn, (bottom row) Dave, me, Jonah, my mom Peggy, cousin Jennifer, Aunt Pat and Uncle John

After Aunt Pat's party we went out to Colonial with the Noes for Dave's all-time favorite dessert... the E.T. Sundae! It's scoopin' fun!

Here are the Noe boys... Zack, Allan & Jake. 2 out of 3 got gummy worms in their ice cream. Can you guess which 2?

Jonah and Aunt Rachey cuddled for a bit...

Then Dave and Jonah posed with the Colonial cow...

Happy 31st birthday daddy/Dave! I hope you had a good day!

Jonah's 4 month doctor's visit

Jonah had his 4 month doctor's appointment yesterday. He had to get 4 shots (poor baby!), but he was a real trooper. Mommy on the other hand... I did cry a little. I could tell his 1st two shots hurt by how he grasped my fingers and did a little sit-up, but he didn't start crying until the 2nd two. That's when I lost it. I was trying my hardest to keep it together in order to comfort him, but his face was just so sad and he tensed up right when they pricked him. I hate shots and so does Jonah.

Now for those of you who have seen our little boy lately you're probably curious about where he falls on those infamous growth charts, right? Well don't worry, our doctor joked when he came in about what a big off-the-chart boy we have, but he's not really off the charts. He weighed 16 lbs. 8 oz. which puts him in the 80th percentile for weight. He's 25 inches long (50th percentile). And his head circumference measured at 17 inches (75th percentile). I guess he's gonna be a little tank just like his cousin Jack! Now it's no wonder he's already fitting into 9 month clothes!

We also got the ok to start him on rice cereal... so come back soon for those pictures! Time to bust out the high chair! Oh boy!

Roger that!

Why "Illuminate Photography"?

In trying to come up with a meaningful name for my business I thought of many options. The problem... they were all taken. And that meant the website addresses were taken. And being the artsy type I just gotta be original, ya know?

I don't really know the exact thought process that brought me to the word I ended up landing on, but I do know I was headed west on Route 88 on my way home from work. When it came to me I initially liked it so much I text messaged it to myself so I wouldn't forget. It was starting to grow on me.

My train (of thought) was that I was trying to think of words that were synonomous with light. I don't know exactly what brought "illuminate" to mind, but I think it might have helped that a song by one of my favorite artists, the David Crowder Band, came on the radio sometime during my drive. (The band has a disk called Illuminate... thanks for the inspiration guys!)

When I got home I jumped on the computer to look up the definition. I wasn't totally sold on name yet. But as I read through the definitions I realized that God had truly inspired the name...

il·lu·mi·nate
4. transitive verb cause somebody to look happy: to make something, especially somebody's face, look happy and animated

This was just one of the definitions. Some other definitions are: to make somebody visible or bright with light; to be lit up; to provide somebody with spiritual enlightenment; to add colored illustrations to a page.

Not only are the definitions perfect for a photography business, but they are an amazing illustration of the "big picture" of what I'd like to accomplish with my business... and that is to glorify God with it and through it all. With my business I hope to be a light to the world... shining for God.

I know that God has been in the drivers seat orchestrating this whole thing so far... allowing Faith to visit our lives for the short time she was with us... she'll always be my original inspiration. And through that experience God brought out the gift of and passion for photography in me. It was there all along, but Faith made it shine. And now Dave and I have a beautiful baby boy Jonah who has inspired me to want to be able to stay home with him. God has given me the faith to quit my job, and now to start my own photography business. I'm so psyched to see what He has planned for me next!

Well that's my story of how I named my business and the meaning behind it. Thanks God for illuminating my life with your awe-inspiring goodness and mercy.

Welcome to the Hackbarth's blog!

Greetings from Sugar Grove!

I've decided to start a blog for our family. I just wanted a place to be able to record stuff that's going on in our lives... milestones, events, that kind of thing. Like for example... Jonah rolled over today! I laid him on our bed on him tummy this morning for some all-important tummy time. I walked into the bathroom to finish getting ready. A couple minutes later I heard Dave let out an excited gasp... I looked and Jonah was just rolling onto his back! What a big boy he is! 4 months old today already!

Here he is after he just woke up yesterday morning...

It was Dave's 31st birthday yesterday. What a wonderful sound to wake up to. Dave and I just laid in bed for about a half hour listening to Jonah-boy sing and coo. When we walked into his room we found him with all of his covers kicked off and one sock missing... he's a crazy kicker!

Well that's all for now!

Thanks for visiting!

A better bounce card

So I watched this video about how to make a better bounce card... Oh my goodness! LOVE IT! **in falsetto** I just took a couple practice shots around the house this evening and is it making such a difference in the way my photos come out! It's like daylight in my living room! Sweet action!

Let the adventure begin!

It's 2am. I'm tired... but I just can't stop!

First, the beginning... I put in my notice at work yesterday. March 6th will be my last day. I almost can't believe it. Dave and I have decided that I should stay home with our wonderful little Jonah-boy. He's almost 4 months old already! Can you believe it?! So I'm going to be a stay-at-home mommy. Pretty weird when I think about it. Sometimes I wonder what I'm going to do with myself. But then I allow myself to drift off into my dream world where I envision myself a successful photographer, able to balance work and home and make enough money to make ends meet (and maybe go out to a movie once in a while or take a vacation).

I'm really praying it's not just a dream and that I am able to become a successful photographer. Hence why I'm awake at 2am. I've decided March 7th is going to be my go date. It's Faith's 2nd birthday and it will be the beginning of my new and exciting adventure/career. I've been up doing research. Learning about equipment and lighting. Thinking about how I'm going to market my business and what it's going to take to get it up and running. Details, details.

Anyway, I'm excited and just wanted to record this moment for posterity. 2am on January 27th... happy birthday Dave!

Now I'm gonna go to bed.
