wakin' up from a good nap

this one goes out to all you kids quest volunteers.

we had to wake jonah up from a really good nap before we went to Christmas eve eve (december 23rd) service at church. and just a little background on why this is so humorous... they have this song they sing in kids quest where they count to 3 and then all the kids yell "elmer!" and then a puppet named elmer comes out. jonah loves elmer.

if you're a parent you probably know about the plethora of annoying kids music that oh so easily gets stuck in your head. well i have great news. i found some kids music that doesn't suck. and if it does gets stuck in your head it's ok, because it's awesome.



i used to be a they might be giants fan back in um... high school i think is when i first discovered birdhouse in your soul and istanbul (not constantinople). then just recently i rediscovered them doing kids music and videos on the disney channel. last week i found their new cd/dvd at the library and discovered that they also do the mickey mouse clubhouse theme song and the hotdog song (now this one will get stuck in your head... don't even listen to it!). but i seriously love this cd. and the videos are so cute! here's their youtube channel. they do a friday night podcast and i'm totally subscribing.

oh! ah ha ha!!! i just discovered my new favorite song! ok, i have to admit it's mostly because pirates 4 through 9 are named peggy (which is my mom's name) and "they all only wore one shoe..." oh, my side. aid-ay moi!

an old home movie of brookfield zoo (not mine)

i just found this neato old home movie that somebody posted on youtube. it's brookfield zoo back in 1935. it's so cool to see how the zoo both has and hasn't changed in 73 years. i love looking at the clothing and that stroller. what a cool bit of history!

my new favorite band: tenth avenue north

i heard a song called "love is here" on the radio the other day from this new band tenth avenue north, so i went looking for them online.

there haven't been too many albums lately that i've just HAD to have, but i think this is going to be one of them. watching the following clip about this group has really touched me and i'm excited to hear more from them. i pray that they have huge success, not to lift up their own name, but because i think their hearts are in the right place and i'm excited to see where God takes them.

happy easter!

a friend sent me this video today in the hopes that i'd spend a few moments watching it and letting the words sink in deep. i did... and it's changed me. it's put my heart in that place where i'm ready to truly celebrate Easter for its real purpose... Christ died for me and conquered death so that i might have eternal life. i don't say this to be "religious". i say it because it's true and i believe it. Christ has changed by life and by accepting him and what he did for me on the cross 2000 years ago i get to spend forever with him... starting now. so i want to let His light shine through me. i might not be a perfect vessel, but i'm willing and that's all he asks for. come to me as you are... but don't stay that way.

So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

i was just sitting working and listening to pandora and of course 10 minutes into it my recently acquired A.D.D. starts to kick in.

this is one of the songs we sang at faith's memorial service. it seems i've been thinking about her a lot lately. i miss her. this song reminds me to praise God. he's in control. he's holy. he's almighty. the joy of the Lord IS my strength.
