jonah did his first poopy on the potty today. hooray! now the question is: am i totally weird for taking a picture of this event? anyone who's not a parent will surely think i'm insane. but i have to tell you, i got the idea from kate from jon and kate plus 8 (the only reality television i watch).
the gosselins have eight kids: the two older girls are twins and the younger six are sextuplets, three girls, three boys. the show totally cracks me up and astounds me and makes me feel like my life as a mother is so stinkin' easy. but kate handles it all with such grace. and i love the fact that they have Bible verses sprinkled throughout the house on little notes. i have to imagine God is the only way they could keep their sanity.
so yeah, i watched an episode where the kids were potty training and when one of the boys did his first #2 on the potty kate took a picture of him and his poopy. then kate explained that although it might seem weird, this is a monumental occasion! i mean can you imagine having six kids in diapers!? jon was explaining that after they got all of the kids potty trained their weekly garbage went from two garbage cans to one. he was like "that's a lot of crap!" YEAH!
so anyway! the matter at hand is the fact that mr. jonah boy went poopy on the potty like a big boy today! and yes i took pictures. he was just so cute. we just got home from seeing shrek the third at the movie theater (love free movies this summer!) with daddy who has the day off work for a nice long 4th of july holiday weekend. jonah was standing next to me and started grabbing his diaper and grunting and saying "poo poo". so i asked him "do you want to go poopy on the potty?"
when he didn't object we marched into the bathroom and i checked to make sure it wasn't too late. then i asked him if he wanted to sit down on his potty because sometimes he gets a little freaked out by it, but he said "yeah". so i plunked his neck-ed little tooshie down on the potty and went to grab a book for him so he'd stay sitting down. and before you knew it he wanted to stand up and check and...
what do we have here? jonah's first poopy in the potty! yay! i got the idea for the blurring out the gross poopy from jon and kate's show too. i didn't think you needed to see that. oh, and don't worry, we did convince jonah that it wasn't a cookie before it was too late. ::GAG!::

jonah and his best friend "jacksey"
hey dude, do you wanna come over and play?yeah! i'll be right over, best friend.
we went and played over at jonah's best friend jackson's house on monday. the boys are only 6 weeks apart (jackson's older) and they have so much fun together! jonah calls jackson "jacksey".
i love this pic!
jacksey has a little 3 month old sister lily. lara was just lifting lily up for a second and jonah totally swooped in and took her spot in the gym. silly jonah! he has this exact same gym at home. i think he thought it was his. we're still learning about sharing and taking turns. =)
lily! you're getting to be such a big girl!
crazy boys! jonah saw jackson climbing up on the bench and leaning on the end table so he had to monkey-see-monkey-do it too.
hooligans!
great smile, buddy!

rumor of glory :: august show
my bestest friend jenn's brand new husband tony and jj (my new friend tonia's husband) make up this band called rumor of glory. do i need to draw a diagram? i just realized that was kind of a complex introduction.
anyway, rumor of glory has a show coming up in august. august 1st to be exact. it's at 7pm at gateway. (7104 mcneil dr, austin)
i'm psyched to see them play! i've heard their music and read their story, but there's just something about live music. so rad. i can't wait! if you're in austin you should come check 'em out!the true story of a son's return to the Father. rumor of glory is a modern day prodigal son story. come witness how being real in the search can change your life.
hear rumor of glory on myspace.

tragedy and prayer requests
my prayers go out to the family and friends of michael argall tonight. on saturday afternoon, june 28th, michael was struck by a car and killed while cycling. i didn't know michael personally, but he was a member of my church and so i grieve for those who did know him.
i did recognize michael's name when they announced it on sunday because i had signed up for a 5k training program through gateway (our church) for the keep austin weird 5k, which took place on saturday. michael helped coordinate and coach the group, which i'm learning was one of his passions. i wasn't able to participate in the program because of scheduling conflicts, but i got michael's emails weekly encouraging the group. his last email from friday around noon ended with "Best wishes! I look forward to hearing about your experience. -Michael"
the news of michael's passing was such sad news to me. it was such a sudden tragedy. it breaks my heart thinking of michael's girlfriend losing him and especially his three children losing their dad. and i suppose selfishly it's hard on me because it brings to the forefront my fear of losing my dear loved ones. i think the news of death does that for a lot of us. but especially since the experience of having my daughter faith born into heaven the reality of life and death has become much more vivid for me.
Lord, i don't know why this has happened, but i do know that we live in a fallen world. sadly death is a reality. i know that you don't choose suffering for your children, and in these times i know that you weep with us in the midst of our loss. God, when we are in those moments when we don't have any strength of our own, help us to realize that you are enough and that you have promised to be our strength when we are weak.

Gateway Family,i also am praying for my dear friend kate. she just had a pacemaker put in and it doesn't seem to be "taking". God, you are the great physician. please heal kate. give wisdom to the doctors and help this next and hopefully last surgery fix all of the problems with the pacemaker. please help it to do what it is designed to do. also give peace to kate's husband edward and daughter clare. amen.
Please keep praying for Michael's loved ones. In addition to the ride being organized by Rogue (7/20, www.roguerunning.com/resources_events.php ) there will a ride from Gateway in honor and memory of Michael on Saturday, July 12. We are asking everyone to arrive by 8:30 AM so Pastor Nate Echelberger can start the pre-ride gathering at 8:45 AM. The ride will begin around 9 AM from Gateway (7104 McNeil Drive, 78729) and will be a casual 10 mile out and back route on Parmer to Avery Ranch (<12 mph). After the ride, people can head over to Rudy's to continue the fellowship. I would appreciate your help in forwarding the ride information to others whose lives have been touched by Michael. This is not a ride for "cyclists" (however, we want everyone to wear a helmet), but for anyone who is grieving or wants to support those who are grieving. If you feel led, Rogue is collecting donations to set up a scholarship fund for Michael's three children or donations can be made to Helping Hand Home for Children or Mission Possible Austin's Camp Nikos Program.
Grace and peace be yours,
Kristen

a 7 minute and 11 second video...
...that only a grandmother would love.
seriously. this is a looong home video that i took before jonah was getting ready for bed the other night. it's probably pretty boring to most people, but i thought it might be fun for grandma and grandpa and our other relatives and friends back in illinois who don't get to see jonah too often to see him just hanging out and talking and being his normal goofy little boy self. (and i'm very excited about figuring out how to put my home videos online too.)

jonah's 1st tattoo!
jonah and daddy and i went out to the lakeline mall today to get daddy some new sandals. his broke a while back so it was time for some dreaded shopping.
we swung it through jc penney's where they were having a door buster sale and found some cool and comfortable brown sandals for dave for 22 dollars! woo hoo! then we headed to the food court for some lunch to feed the famished troops.
after our favorite orange chicken at panda we poked our noses around the corner and found this cute new little cupcake shop... be my cupcake.they were having a grand opening cupcake for a dollar thing going on aaaaand... there's was a clown doing balloon animals and face painting! when we asked jonah if he'd like to get winnie on his arm he shouted "wee-mee!" with so much glee you woulda thought he was gonna burst with excitement. he was so good and waited patiently in line (while nibbling on a cupcake with mommy) to see kiwi the clown. (it's a good thing mommy has a camera phone!)
then it was jonah's turn! we plunked him in the seat and he just giggled and giggled and watched in awe as cookie kiwi gave him his first ever tattoo.
hee hee hee! this is so much fun! it's tickley!
ok, are you done yet cookie?
nice! check out that ink, dude!
this new tattoo has given me a boost of testosterone. what can i do that's extra manly? ooh! how 'bout some bull riding!?
...and a quick spin around the mall on the train.
yay! i just figured out how to put our videos on smugmug! so now you can hear that cute little voice of his telling you who's on his arm...
oh, and be sure to catch the part where he puts the lego up to his arm. he uses it like a camera, so if you listen closely you'll be able to hear him say "say cheese". gosh jonah, does someone in your life take a lot of pictures or something?
the end
